The original Skull & Roses contained 11 tracks recorded between March 24 – April 29, 1971. “Good Lovin'” is one of 10 tracks from the Dead’s July 2, 1971 concert featured on expanded Skull & Roses reissues. Guitarists Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir, bassist Phil Lesh, keyboardist Ron “Pigpen” McKernan and drummer Bill Kreutzmann formed the band’s lineup at the time of the show. “The Grateful Dead’s 1971 live album was a little light on Pigpen songs, but this 17-minute version from the Fillmore West packs a lot of Pigpen onto the expanded album.”
