Grace Potter premiered the video for her song “Release.” The track is off the singer-songwriter’s 2019 album, Daylight.

Daylight arrived in October 2019 and documents a transitional period in Potter’s life that saw the end of a relationship, the beginning of a new one and the birth of her son. Although she called “Release,” “the most personal song I have ever written,” in a Facebook post, Potter also broadened the scope of the tune to include the entire world struggling through the COVID-19 pandemic. “We’re all ready for a little release,” she wrote.

In a livestream chat ahead of the video premiere, Potter remembered her co-writer on “Release,” renowned songwriter Mike Busbee, who died from brain cancer in September 2019 just before Daylight arrived. Grace also detailed working with the video’s director, Catherine Fordham, and how Fordham captured her vision for “Release.” Potter called the song and visual “cathartic” and revealed that the video was her “favorite” she’s made so far.
