Gov’t Mule Welcomes Steve Gorman, Jack Pearson & More In Nashville

A night after playing Lockn’, Gov’t Mule continued their summer tour with a stop at the Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville. As has become the norm on this tour, the Southern jam titans once again welcomed a slew of guests to join them during their one-set show in The Music City.
Warren Haynes & Co. got the night started with “Bad Little Doggie,” from their 2000 release Life Before Insanity. Next up came a trio of tunes from 2006’s High & Mighty – “Brand New Angel,” “Unring The Bell,” which saw the band work in a jam on the Grateful Dead’s “Shakedown Street,” and “Endless Parade.” “Revolution Come…Revolution Go” followed with a cover of Joe Henry’s “King’s Highway” that segued into a “King’s Highway Jam” and “Sarah, Surrender.”
Mule welcomed their first guests of the night next, with former Black Crowes members Audley Freed and Steve Gorman emerging. Gorman replaced Matt Abts on the drum kit for a version of a familiar song for their guests, The Black Crowes’ “Sometimes Salvation.” The band returned to a four-piece for “Beautifully Broken,” and welcomed out former Allman Brothers Band member Jack Pearson next for a take on the ABB classic “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed.” Fan-favorite “Soulshine” closed out the band’s main set.
When Gov’t Mule returned to the stage for their encore they had some friends in tow, welcoming Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke and Pearson back to the stage. The meaty ensemble stuck to a pair of Allman Brothers’ tunes with “Melissa” segueing into a take on “Mountain Jam,” which eventually returned back to the Gregg Allman-penned song to end the night.
