Gov’t Mule Welcomes Danny Clinch & Pete Levin In New Jersey

Gov’t Mule’s Spring Tour continued on Sunday night with a performance at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, New Jersey that was part of the Asbury Park Music + Film Festival. The band once again welcomed a guest harmonica player, this time Danny Clinch, as well as keyboardist Pete Levin to sit-in during the evening’s encore.
Mule’s Asbury Park appearance was made up of one long set that began with “Bad Little Doggie” and wrapped with “Thorazine Shuffle.” Between those songs frontman Warren Haynes led takes on “Burning Point,” “Easy Times” and “Sarah, Surrender” from their 2017 studio album Revolution Come … Revolution Go, as well as such Mule classics as “Slackjaw Jezebel,” “Thelonius Beck,” “Temporary Saint” and others. Mule incorporated a few covers into the set, sequencing their often coupled pair of The Beatles favorites “She Said, She Said” and “Tomorrow Never Knows.”
The start of Mule’s Spring Tour featured harmonica player Hook Herrera sitting-in on several consecutive nights. After two shows with no guests at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York this weekend, Haynes & Co. brought out photographer/film director and talented harmonica player Danny Clinch to augment the two-song encore. Also on stage was Clinch’s band mate in The Tangiers Blues Band, keyboardist Pete Levin, for takes on Muddy Waters’ “She’s Nineteen Years Old” and Sonny Boy Williamson’s “Good Morning, School Girl.”
