Gov’t Mule Performs Live In The Studio For Yahoo Music

Earlier this year Gov’t Mule released their 10th studio album Revolution Come … Revolution Go via Fantasy Records. The band fronted by guitarist Warren Haynes recently performed a rendition of the album track “Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground” live in the studio for Yahoo Music.
The closing track on the new album, “Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground” was brought to prominence by legendary bluesman Blind Willie Johnson. Haynes discussed with Yahoo Music the decision to record the tune, telling the outlet:
The original recording from 1927, although an instrumental, is considered one of the most haunting blues recordings in history. I wrote lyrics that are reflective of what’s going on in America today, and we arranged it as a rock song that includes many of the original melodies and chants.
