Gov’t Mule Goes ‘Out West’ With Members Of Galactic In Des Moines

Collaborations between Gov’t Mule and Galactic continued last night as the two bands shared a bill at Brenton Skating Plaza in Des Moines, Iowa. Members of Galactic were welcomed back to the stage to assist Mule during their single-set performance.

The first guest spot came near the middle of Gov’t Mule’s set when Galactic horn player Shamarr Allen emerged to augment a cover of Billy Cobham’s “Stratus.” Frontman Warren Haynes and Mule filled out their show with a number of selections from their recent studio album Revolution Come … Revolution Go including the title track, the single “Stone Cold Rage” and the set-closing “Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground.”

Mule brought back Allen, as well as Galactic keyboardist Rich Vogel and saxophonist Ben Ellman for the evening’s encore cover of Tom Waits’ “Goin’ Out West.” The two bands will appear together tonight at Sumtur Amphitheatre in Papillion, Nebraska.
