Gorillaz Release Surprise EP ‘Meanwhile’

Gorillaz shocked fans today by issuing the surprise three-track EP Meanwhile. The virtual band created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett are joined on Meanwhile by guests Jelani Blackman, Barrington Levy, AJ Tracey and Alicaì Harley.

Meanwhile comes after the band returned to the stage earlier this month for two performances at 02 Arena in London. Gorillaz released the EP in a nod to the famed Notting Hill Carnival, on hiatus due to the pandemic, and West London, the location of their Kong Studios facility.

The title track includes contributions from rapper/singer Jelani Blackman and reggae artist Barrington Levy. British rapper and Ladbroke Grove-native AJ Tracey adds to “Jimmy Jimmy,” while Meanwhile closer “Déjà Vu” features dancehall star Alicaì Harley and was recorded live in London. “Meanwhile Gardens are just round the corner from Memory Lane. If you get to Crawley you’ve gone too far,” stated Gorillaz frontman 2D.
