Gorillaz were the musical guest on Saturday Night Live for the first time when they appeared on this weekend’s episode with host Ryan Gosling. Damon Albarn led the group through the classic “Clint Eastwood” and a performance of a song from the newly released Gorillaz album, The Mountain.
Issued last month through their Kong label, The Mountain is the ninth Gorillaz album. Albarn and the group will tour in support of the record, with a North American leg scheduled for the fall.
Reprising the guest contribution he made on Gorillaz’s self-titled 2001 debut album, rapper Del the Funky Homosapien appeared on SNL for the “Clint Eastwood” performance.
Similarly, The Mountain guest contributors – Asha Puthli, Anoushka Shankar and The Roots’ Black Thought – joined Albarn on “The Moon Cave.”
