Goose Takes Live Favorite ‘Thatch’ Into The Studio

Goose shared a studio version of their song, “Thatch,” as the latest single from their upcoming new album, Everything Must Go. The band’s fourth album is set to be released on April 25 through No Coincidence Records.

Since its live debut in November 2022, “Thatch” has been performed by Goose 46 times, with 25 versions earning the “notable jam” designation from the El Goose setlist database. The studio example clocks in at 6:40.

Written by Goose’s Rick Mitarotonda, the guitarist spoke about “Thatch,” stating:

“There are always little ideas and melodies getting stowed away into voice memos on my phone. ‘Thatch’ started as one of those. It was sitting around as an idea like that for a while, then came together relatively quickly during a transitional period in late 2022.

“We’re often surrounded in one way or another by voices that encourage us to fit in, and stay on beaten paths. The song’s about believing in and staying committed to whatever strange and interesting ideas might be kicking around in us.”

Goose’s album first in three years, Everything Must Go was produced by D. James Goodwin. The 14-track album is Goose’s first album recorded with drummer Cotter Ellis after he took over for original drummer Ben Atkind. Everything Must Go was completed before the recent departure of percussionist Jeff Arevalo.

Goose will return to the stage later this month in New Orleans when they make their Jazz Fest debut on April 24. The band will then host the inaugural Viva El Gonzo destination event in San José del Cabo, Mexico May 8 – 10.
