Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and Goose became the first acts to perform live for 11E1even Group and nugs.tv’s Live From Out There series on Saturday and Sunday nights, repectively. Each band played a set for a virtual audience that were streamed via nugs.tv with some of the proceeds going towards Sweet Relief’s COVID-19 Fund to help musicians struggling to make ends meet during the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
On Saturday, PPPP played a 90-minute set at an undisclosed venue that was closed to patrons. Frontman Greg Ormont explained the band wished they were in the Southeast where Pigeons were originally slated to perform this weekend but “we quickly decided that we needed to play for you this weekend because we love to play and we were going to make it happen no matter how we can.” The quartet then launched into “Su Casa” which was followed by “Distant Times.” Pigeons then performed “Down With Antelope,” their mashup of Phish’s “Down With Disease” and “Run Like An Antelope.” A huge surprise came within as the four-piece dusted off “E-Funk” for the first time since December 1, 2018 as per Phantasy Tour.
Saturday’s set continued on with “Overrun” and the recently debuted “Move Like That.” Pigeons Playing Ping Pong then worked “Beanstalk” into “Julia” and performed classic “Couldn’t We All.” Next, the quartet reached back for “Overtired,” which according to PT PPPP was last played on December 8, 2018. The Baltimore-based band went on to end their set with “Fun In Funk.” While Goose was originally slated to perform before Pigeons, technical issues led the band to stream their set on Sunday instead. However, previous Goose sets were broadcast before and after PPPP’s live performance on Saturday.
Goose set up in a living room in their home state of Connecticut for a set that was streamed on Sunday evening. A “back-beat version” of “Madhuvan” opened before the recently debuted “Bob Don” was followed by a “slow and melodic version” of “All I Need.” The quartet then went acoustic for their own “Indian River” and a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Atlantic City.” The rest of the set was a seamless affair that started with a “Jive II” in which the band transferred from acoustic instruments to electric. Goose closed out their performance with a run of “Into The Myst” into “Honeybee” into “Jive Lee” into “Mustang Sally.”
