Goose played the third show of a three-night stand at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre on Saturday night. After delivering an improv-heavy, three-song second set, the group led into the encore by covering The Band’s “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” for the first time in eight years.

According to Goose setlist database El, “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” had been played by Goose just once before, on June 17, 2016. Guitarist Rick Mitarotonda and bassist Trevor Weekz were the only current band members in the group at the time of the last “Dixie” performance.

Saturday’s The Band cover bust out was followed by an additional dose of improvisation via a 15-minute “Factory Fiction.” The jam-filled night also saw a 28-minute “Tumble” open the second set and a 25-minute “Red Bird” as the closer. “A Western Sun” fell between the lengthy opener and closer.

There were big jams in the first set as well on Saturday after “Hot Love & The Lazy Poet” got things going. Later in the set, “Arrow” was taken for a 27-minute exploratory ride. Set one also saw Mitarotonda, Weekz, keyboardist/guitarist Peter Anspach, percussionist Jeff Arevalo and drummer Cotter Ellis stretching out some on “Atlas” (making its first setlist in over a year), “Mr. Action,” “Silver Rising” and “SOS.”
