We are saddened to pass along the news that guitarist Glenn Frey has died. Frey was a founding member of Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame act the Eagles and had been battling intestinal issues that required surgery. Glenn succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia.

Frey was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1948 and later moved to California, where he met drummer Don Henley in 1970. The pair formed the Eagles with fellow members of Linda Ronstadt’s backing band and went on to become one of the best-selling artists in music history thanks to such hits as “Hotel California,” “Take It Easy,” “Desperado” and “Heartache Tonight.” Glenn sang lead on many of the group’s most beloved songs.

The Eagles broke up in 1980 and it was said the group would reform “when hell freezes over.” When the band did reunite in 1994 they cleverly named their world tour “Hell Freezes Over.” The group has toured sporadically ever since. During the Eagles breakup, Frey had a successful solo career with “You Belong To The City” and “The Heat Is On” among his hits. He also started a career as an actor with roles on Miami Vice and Wiseguy among his credits.

Our thoughts are with Glenn’s friends and family.

Read a statement from Frey’s official website:
