Gillian Welch and David Rawlings performed “When A Cowboy Trades His Spurs For Wings” at Sunday’s 91st Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. The folk duo was nominated for Best Original Song for the tune that appears the Coen brothers’ film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
The pair recently issued a studio version of the song that is sung by Tim Blake Nelson and Willie Watson in the six-part Western anthology. Welch and Rawlings, who lost out to Lady Gaga, performed the song dressed in Nudie-style attire with a gorgeous nightscape of a desert canyon behind them.
