Gillian Welch and David Rawlings released a new single, “Hashtag.” The track is set for the longtime collaborators’ forthcoming album, Woodland, due out on August 23.

Welch and Rawlings announced Woodland in July and shared the single, “Empty Trainload Of Sky.” The new record is Welch’s first full-length of original material since 2011’s The Harrow & The Harvest and Rawlings’ first LP of original songs since 2017’s Poor David’s Almanack. The duo released a covers album, All The Good Times, in 2020.

Woodland is named after Welch and Rawlings’ Nashville recording facility.

“Woodland is at the heart of everything we do, and has been for the last 20 some years,” the pair stated. “The past four years were spent almost entirely within its walls, bringing it back to life after the 2020 tornado and making this record. The music is … a swirl of contradictions, emptiness, fullness, joy, grief, destruction, permanence. Now.”

The latest from Woodland is “Hashtag,” a poignant tune with Gillian and David’s signature harmonies as well as a stirring string arrangement. Listen below:
