Funk outfit Ghost-Note recently made their Tiny Desk Concert debut. The band offered songs from their 2024 album Mustard n’Onions and more for the NPR Music series.
Led by Robert “Sput” Searight, Ghost-Note also features veteran band members of Prince, Kendrick Lamar, Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller, Kirk Franklin and other groups. The ensemble’s Mustard n’Onions arrived on April 19, 2024.
The band — Searight, Nate Werth, Justin McKinney, Peter Knudsen, Dominique Xavier Taplin, Mackenzie Green, Jonathan Mones, Sylvester Onyejiaka and Daniel Wytanis — offered four songs from Mustard n’Onions as well as live favorite “Be Somebody.”
NPR’s Nikki Birch noted that the performance was “so funky that every face in the room reflexively assumed and remained in stank position. Yep, this Tiny Desk concert reeks like the Mustard n’Onions the band left behind.”
