George Porter Jr. Shares ‘Crying For Hope’ Video
The Meters co-founding bassist penned the song as a social justice anthem.
Co-founding The Meters bassist George Porter Jr. recently released the video for “Crying For Hope,” the title track for the iconic musician's latest studio album. Crying For Hope finds Porter backed by his longtime band Runnin’ Pardners and came out via Controlled Substance Sound Labs and Color Red on March 26.
George Porter Jr., guitarist Chris Adkins, keyboardist Michael Lemmler and drummer Terrence Houston recorded the 12-track LP during the pandemic both at Ora’s Third Floor Sound Lab and at their respective home studios. The title track was created in response to the continued racial tension in the U.S.
“I wrote the song from my own pain and experience watching the events of last summer,” George Porter Jr. said in a statement. “I really just wanted to be able to feel hopeful for the future. I think the video captures both feelings of the song, the seriousness of the issue and that feeling of hope and change we all wish for.”
