At age 77 and soon to turn 78, George Clinton is ready to retire. George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic will embark on the One Nation Under A Groove Tour between this spring and August. Galactic, Fishbone and Dumpstaphunk are among support acts at select dates.
“I would love to keep on doing this but I’ll be 78 in a few more months,” Clinton told Rolling Stone. “Even though I feel like I’m just getting started, the reality is the group needs to go ahead and keep it going. We’ve got a new vibe in the band, and they’ve been carrying it for the last three years. I’ve been up there representing for people, but they’ve actually been turning the place out. And we’ve been selling out for the last five years, every night.”
After an appearance at this year’s Summer Camp Music Festival, George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic teams with Galactic, Fishbone and Miss Velvet & The Blue Wolf for dates in Milwaukee, Chicago and Cincinnati. Then, Clinton leads the band in New York City, Boston and Philadelphia featuring support from Fishbone, Dumpstaphunk and Miss Velvet & The Blue Wolf. A couple of headlining dates follow before George & Co. head west for shows in Los Angeles and Saratoga, California with Fishbone, Dumpstaphunk and Miss Velvet & The Blue Wolf.
On August 4, the legendary funk act teams with Zapp, Fishbone, Dumpstaphunk and Miss Velvet & The Blue Wolf in Lincoln, California. The run ends with dates in Seattle, Portland (Oregon), Eugene, Denver, Phoenix and Las Vegas featuring support from Fishbone, Dumpstaphunk and Miss Velvet & The Blue Wolf. Tickets go on sale this Friday, February 8 at 10 a.m. local time.
