Garcia Peoples announced a new album, Nightcap At Wits’ End, slated for an October 9 release on Beyond Beyond is Beyond. The New York City-based psychedelic rockers also shared the single, “One At A Time.”

Nightcap At Wits’ End follows a wildly prolific 2019 output for Garcia Peoples, releasing a handful of live projects along with two studio albums: the stream-lined, song-oriented Natural Facts and the sprawling, exploratory One Step Behind. The band — guitarists Tom Malach, Danny Arakaki and Derek Spaldo, keyboardist Pat Gubler, bassist Andy Kush and drummer Cesar Arakaki — recorded the album in Philadelphia with Jeff Zeigler, who also helmed Natural Facts, as per legendary Rolling Stone rock writer David Fricke, who wrote about Nightcap At Wits’ End in a statement:

Almost 50 minutes of intricately arranged composition and kinetic guitar chorales christened in tribute to both a familiar place of refuge and that ragged state of mind beyond all common sense, when you keep on going even after you’ve run out of rope and road. The music itself is a double image: one album-length side of songs that advance the crisp momentum and tangled jangle of early-2019’s Natural Facts; and a second half that extends the medley action on Cosmic Cash with the long reach of One Step Behind in a suite of dynamic writing and bonded, instrumental charge, connected by live-to-tape jams – the band’s first time exercising that second-nature-on-stage in a studio.

Garcia Peoples previewed the new album with the opening salvo of the second side Fricke speaks of, “One At A Time.” The song “is about the push and pull process of overcoming patterns of fear-based thinking and societal conditioning,” guitarist Derek Spaldo told Brooklyn Vegan, who premiered the track. “When I’m at my wits’ end, I try to slow down and self-soothe to return to a place of centeredness,” Spaldo continued. “Musically, the song has a similar simmering potency that builds to an eruption, then goes down, and back up again. These dynamics are like going through dark periods in life, and then having illuminating eureka moments of awareness, power, and hope.”

“One At A Time” also arrived with an accompanying music video. Watch it below:
