Watch Galactic Head To Havana In ‘Ready For Me’ Video Featuring Cimafunk & Angelika ‘Jelly’ Joseph
The track appears on the NOLA-based band’s recently released Tchompitoulas EP.
New Orleans-based funk revivalists Galactic released the guest-filled Tchompitoulas EP in January via their own Tchuop-Zilla Records imprint. That same month, Galactic headed to Havana, Cuba to film the video for the EP’s bombastic “Ready For Me” track. The visual featuring Cuban native Cimafunk and current Galactic vocalist Anjelika ‘Jelly’ Joseph arrived today.
Galactic embarked on the Havana Funk Expedition in January with Trombone Shorty. Hosted by Cimafunk, the trip saw the NOLA natives perform with Cuban music students and collaborate with local artists. “Since we had recorded the song with one of Cuba’s hottest rising stars, and we had a trip to Cuba on the calendar, it was a no-brainer to shoot the video down there,” Galactic bassist Robert Mercurio told Flood, the outlet that premiered the video. “The backdrop of Havana was so visually exciting that the video kind of made itself.”
“Galactic and Jelly have always taken care of me in New Orleans, it was so dope to have them on my turf in Cuba,” added Cimafunk. “Making the video was a lot of fun—a bunch of artists chilling together, making music, sharing our culture. When we get stuck understanding something between the English-Spanish divide or complicated politics, we just turn to the music to connect. And damn, can those Galactic guys play music. And Jelly’s voice and groove—she’s the truth.”
