Full Show Friday | Remembering Janis Joplin

Today marks the anniversary of Janis Joplin’s tragic death at the age of 27 in 1970. Joplin’s death came just 16 days after we lost Jimi Hendrix and we can’t help but think of what might have been had Jimi and Janis made it through their respective drug issues. Janis had a voice unlike any other rocker that came before her and those who have come since. We wanted to share professionally-shot footage from Janis’s April 12, 1969 performance in Frankfurt, Germany.

Joplin had parted ways with Big Brother & The Holding Company a few months earlier and was in Europe with the Kozmic Blues Band. Janis’s April 12th performance was captured for a German TV documentary. While unfortunately the documentary below doesn’t have English subtitles, the performance footage is well worth viewing and shows just how good Joplin was. Craziness takes place at the end of the video when the crowd jams onto the stage, leaving the band members unable to see each other. Chaos -just the way Janis liked it.
