By Scott Bernstein Jul 25, 2014 • 7:50 am PDT

The first set started off innocently enough with “Meat” before Phish lit into the first “My Friend, My Friend” of the year. Out of “My Friend” came the instrumental “My Left Toe” off The Siket Disc and from there the band segued into their first Trey Anastasio-sung cover of “Whipping Post” by the Allman Brothers Band since 1990. Take a listen to the “Whipping Post” Phish laid down 15 years ago tonight:
There’s plenty of other highlights from Phish’s performance from July 25, 1999 including a fun take on “Makisupa Policeman” that turned into a celebration of LD Chris Kuroda’s birthday, an insane uplifting jam out of “Birds Of A Feather” that leads into the year’s first “Walk Away” and one of the most interesting versions of “Suzy Greenberg” since the song’s 1987 debut. We can go on and on about the majesty of 7/25/99, but no words can beat listening to the show itself:
