Boston Ween fans had been waiting a long time for the purveyors of brown to finally return to Beantown. Those fans got their wish last night, when the five-piece played their first show in town since November 28, 2007 at the House Of Blues.
Ween’s 31-song affair put the focus on songs from 2000’s White Pepper including “Bananas & Blow,” “Even If You Don’t” and “Back To Basom” plus tunes off 1994’s Chocolate & Cheese such as “Roses Are Free,” “Take Me Away” and “Voodoo Lady” as well as cuts from 1992’s Pure Guava like “Touch My Tooter” and “The Goin’ Gets Tough From The Getgo.” Tuesday’s show also featured a four song encore that started with just founding members Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo and Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman performing “Squelch The Weasel.”
On the rarities side, Ween played “Japanese Cowboy” for just the third time since 1996, dusted off “Object” for the first time since February, performed “I Play It Off Legit” for just the second time on a Ween stage and also treated fans to the seventh-ever “Boys Club.” Now, Ween heads to Arrington, Virginia for performances on Thursday and Friday at the Lockn’ Festival.
