Full Show Audio: Umphrey’s McGee Mix Rarities & Heavy Hitters In Baltimore

Chicago sextet Umphrey’s McGee returned to Baltimore on Friday night for a performance at Pier Six. The band mixed rarities with heavy hitters to create an all-killer, no-filler affair in Charm City. An audience recording of the concert has surfaced and can be streamed below.

UM opened with “Educated Guess” and “Professor Wormbog” before splitting up “2×2” with “Speak Up.” A well-jammed “Blue Echo” then led into “Mail Package” ahead of the first “Uncommon” in 60 shows. The band explored a number of different jam spaces over the course of the first set-closing “Hurt Bird Bath.” Friday’s second set was one massive “All In Time” sandwich. Instrumental rarity “The Pequod” made its first appearance in 49 shows and was followed by the evening’s biggest bust out, a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “The Song Remains The Same.” UM hadn’t played the cover since way back on July 17, 2015 – a span of 91 shows. Friday’s second set also featured “In The Kitchen,” “Mulche’s Odyssey,” “Mad Love” and “Wappy Sprayberry.”

The band came back for the encore with guitarist Jake Cinninger delivering an inventive intro to “Glory.” After a blistering “Glory,” UM segued into a rare cover of “Hollywood Nights” by Bob Seger to end the show. Umphrey’s McGee continues tour tonight at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
