Last night the Tedeschi Trucks Band kicked off their 7th annual Beacon Theatre residency, with the first of six shows at the historic Upper West Side venue. As the band announced last month these shows mark the much-anticipated return of multi-instrumentalist Kofi Burbridge, who had been sidelined since undergoing emergency heart surgery earlier this year. The sold out crowd at 2,800-plus capacity theater was treated to an opening set by the Greyhounds, followed by a lengthy set from the Tedeschi Trucks Band, which saw them welcome out a pair of additional keyboard players to give Burbridge some extra help on his first night back.

TTB kicked off the run with a trio of tracks from their most recent studio effort Let Get Get By – “Laugh About It,” “Don’t Know What It Means,” and “Right On Time,” with a fiery twelve-plus minute cover of Derek & The Dominos “Anyday” mixed in between. Next up, the band welcomed keyboardist Carey Frank, who had filled in for Burbridge over the summer, for a cover of Foghat’s “Chevrolet,” from the English rock act’s 1978 release Stone Blue. “All The World,” which was debuted last month followed, with “Idle Wind,” from 2013’s Made Up My Mind and a cover of Taj Mahal’s “Sweet Mama Janisse.”

Later in the set the Tedeschi Trucks Band welcomed their second guest of the night out, as keyboardist John Medeski joined the meaty ensemble for the back half of their set. With Medeski in tow the augmented act launched into Lee Dorsey’s “Get Out Of My Life Woman,” which may be best known as a longtime staple in the Jerry Garcia Band’s repertoire. Medeski than led the band through a take on the instrumental “Hudson,” the lead track from his album with Jack DeJohnette, John Scofield and Larry Grenadier that was released earlier this year. Medeski stuck around for a take on TTB’s “Let Me Get By” and the traditional tune “Will The Circle Be Unbroken,” which brought their main set to an end.

Tedeschi Trucks Band emerged sans guests for the double-encore of Bob Dylan’s “Down Along The Cove,” from Zimmy’s 1967 release John Wesley Harding and their own “Made Up Mind.”

Tedeschi Trucks Band returns to the stage tonight for their second of six with an “Evening With…” show. Listen to full show audio, watch videos of “Anyday” and “Get Out My Life Woman,” and check out the setlist below:
