Full Show Audio: Tedeschi Trucks Band Opens Warner Theatre Run

Tedeschi Trucks Band began a three-show run at the Warner Theatre in Washington D.C. Thursday night. The concert featured TTB offering originals with a number of choice covers, including one that featured a sample of the voice of the late great Nina Simone.

Susan Tedeschi led the ensemble through a rousing opening cover of The Staples Singers’ “Freedom Highway.” TTB then launched into “Laugh About It” from their 2016 LP Let Me Get By and Derek Trucks’ “Get What You Deserve.”

A cover of George Harrison’s “Isn’t It A Pity” came ahead of “Right On Time” and Allen Toussaint’s lively-rocker “Get Out My Life, Woman.” A lengthy “Idle Wind” was followed by a cover of “Color Of The Blues.” The set then saw Susan singing Nina Simone’s “Revolution” and the purported debut cover featured a sample of the legendary performer that introduced another expansive portion of improvisation. TTB linked their “I Want More” with Santana’s classic “Soul Sacrifice” to close out the set. B.B. King’s “How Blue Can You Get” and the R&B singalong “Let’s Go Get Stoned” served as the evening’s encore and drew the show to an end.
