Full Show Audio: moe. Dusts Off Bowie Cover & Jams On ‘Star Wars’ Theme In Missoula

By Scott Bernstein Dec 31, 2016 10:10 am PST

Jam rockers moe. picked a “remote location” for this year’s New Year’s Run as they played the first of two consecutive shows at The Wilma in Missoula, Montana on Friday night. The band performed a pair of career-spanning sets and encored with a long-lost David Bowie cover.

moe. came out of the gates with an adventurous “Billy Goat” that spanned over 15 minutes before seguing into “Not Coming Down,” which in turn gave way to “Wormwood.” Percussionist Jim Loughlin then stepped up front for his tale of those we’ve lost called “Don’t Wanna Be,” which the band debuted earlier this month in Port Chester. A jam-filled “Lazarus” came next ahead of lengthy takes on “Montego” and “Silver Sun.”

The band opened the second set with “Brent Black.” A drums jam came out of the “Brent Black” madness before bassist Rob Derhak took his usual solo. One of the highlights of the night was next as “Kyle’s Song” led into a “Star Wars” jam and eventually wound its way into “Bring You Down.” moe. ended the second set with “32 Things” and encored with their first “All The Young Dudes” since Halloween ’14. Bowie wrote “All The Young Dudes” for Mott The Hopple. Tonight, moe. returns to The Wilma for a New Year’s Eve performance.
