Full Show Audio: Jeff Chimenti & Jon Shaw Join Joe Russo’s Almost Dead At Green River Festival
By Andy Kahn Jul 18, 2017 • 10:00 am PDT
On Sunday Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead performed at the Green River Festival at Greenfield College in Greenfield, Massachusetts. The headlining set featured a JRAD lineup that for the first time included keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and bassist Jon Shaw filling-in.
Chimenti, who also serves as Dead & Company keyboardist, was once again sitting-in for Marco Benevento, while Shaw was again taking the spot normally held by Ween bassist Dave Dreiwitz. Namesake drummer Joe Russo and guitarists Scott Metzger and Tom Hamilton kicked off the set by joining their guests for the evening on a jam that lead to “Loser.”
“Feel Like A Stranger” came after the opener with the rest of the set constructed from staples of the Dead’s repertoire such as “Row Jimmy,” “Franklin’s Tower,” “The Other One,” “Going Down The Road Feeling Bad” and others. The classic Buddy Holly singalong “Not Fade Away” was selected for the night’s lone encore. Taper nico11104 posted an audience recording of JRAD’s Green River set, stream it here:
