Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead was among the performers at the 2017 Sunshine Music Festival in Florida. JRAD was joined at Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg by Tedeschi Trucks Band vocalist Alecia Chakour, and the band has shared a soundboard recording of the full January 14 set.

Chakour, who was at the fest performing with the headlining TTB as well, emerged at Vinoy Park to help sing the blues staple “Turn On Your Lovelight.” The next day Chakour also sat-in with JRAD at Mizner Park Amphitheater in Boca Raton on a performance of the Dead’s rarely played Pigpen-original “The Stranger (Two Souls In Communion).”

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead’s performance in St. Petersburg opened with “Reuben & Cerise” followed by “Eyes Of The World” and the aforementioned “Lovelight.” Dead classic “Alligator” as well as “Cumberland Blues” and “Shakedown Street” helped round out the festival set. A jam on Led Zeppelin’s “No Quarter” came from keyboardist Marco Benevento during a set-ending sequence bridging “Greatest Story Ever Told” with “One More Saturday Night.”
