We’ve swapped out the original recording featured for a soundboard matrix recording of Russo, Benevento and Burbridge’s set.
Just about a week ago we reported on the debut of RB&B, a true supergroup featuring drummer Joe Russo, keyboardist Marco Benevento and bassist Oteil Burbridge. The trio performed a set this past Sunday at the Peach Music Festival in Scranton, when Gregg Allman cancelled all appearances through late October due to serious health issues. Today, a soundboard matrix recording of RB&B’s debut has surfaced.
RB&B’s set was mostly an improv-heavy superjam. The trio showed off their skills with very few stops in the action throughout the 80-minute performance. Joe, Marco and Oteil explored a bevy of different themes over the course of the set with a strong leaning towards the jazz-fusion of the ’70s favored by the likes of Miles Davis, Weather Report and Return To Forever. RB&B varied tempos and took turns leading the action.
