Fruition Performs 10+ Different Tom Petty Covers Over The Course Of 2017 Fall Tour

Over the past three weeks JamBase has been reporting on Tom Petty tributes from a variety of bands, as the beloved musician’s death on October 2 was followed by many covers from the acts who have been inspired by his masterful songs. There has been one notable omission from our coverage which we will correct today. Portland, Oregon roots-rockers Fruition has been honoring Tom Petty at each and every show since the 2nd. Fruition hasn’t just stuck with one Petty classic, they have performed at least 10 different covers in the wake of Tom’s death.

Fruition’s flood of Tom Petty tributes started on October 4 at The Parliament Room of Otus Supply in Ferndale, Michigan. In this case, the band went with a Petty song they had covered in the past, “You Don’t Know How It Feels” from Tom’s 1994 solo album Wildflowers. Thanks to Terry Lapointe, the Fruition crew member who records the soundboard feed that are transferred and uploaded to the Live Music Archive with the help of Jen Fisher after nearly every show, we can listen to recordings of each Tom Petty cover played between October 4 and 18. Here’s a list of each one through the 18th and hopefully we’ll soon add audio of “Learning To Fly” from October 19 and whichever covers they pick(ed) for October 20 in Alabama and October 21 in Atlanta:

October 4 – Ferndale, MI: You Don’t Know How It Feels (Wildflowers)

October 5 – Ferndale, MI: Mary Jane’s Last Dance (Greatest Hits)
