For the third year in a row The New Mastersounds will play a New Year’s Eve show at the Joy Theater in New Orleans. This time around they’ll be joined by Foundation of Funk featuring legendary musicians George Porter Jr. and Zigaboo Modeliste joined by TNM’s Eddie Roberts on guitar and Joe Tatton on keys for a set that will pay tribute to the music of The Meters. Fittingly, the show has been dubbed “A Truly Funky Affair.”
The evening will start with a full set from The New Mastersounds with The West Coast Horns. Then, Foundation of Funk will play a full set. “Foundation of Funk is a concept that George and I have been brainstorming for a while, building on the drum and bass relationship that we created years ago and continue to create together today. The 1st Chapter of the Foundation of Funk was written this past June when we were joined by Ivan Neville and Tony Hall of Dumpstaphunk. Chapter 2 will be written this New Year’s Eve when Eddie Roberts and Joe Tatton of The New Mastersounds join George and I in New Orleans. The two teams combining is going to be a whole new energy when two lads from Leeds and two lads from New Orleans ring in the New Year together. It will be ‘A Truly Funky Affair’,” said Modeliste.

“For our 3rd year bringing in the New Year in Nola, it’s incredibly exciting to be sharing the stage with our heroes, the originators of the funk, Zig and George. And for Joe and I, not only sharing the stage, but to play a full set as Foundation of Funk with these legends is just mind blowing,” added Eddie Roberts. Eddie and Zigaboo will team up this weekend at a pair of The Payback benefits in San Francisco.
“A Truly Funky Affair” tickets go on sale this Friday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. CT via the venue’s website.
