FORMAT Festival 2022 Lineup: Phoenix, Khruangbin, The War On Drugs & More

The inaugural FORMAT (For Music + Art + Technology) festival will connect the worlds of music, art and technology with a musical lineup topped by Phoenix, Khruangbin, The War On Drugs and RÜFÜS DU SOL. Organized by Triadic (Mafalda Millies, Roya Sachs, and Elizabeth Edelman) in partnership with C3 Presents (Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits), the multidisciplinary event is coming to Sugar Creek Airstrip in Bentonville, Arkansas from September 23 – 25.

Other FORMAT musical performers include Beach House, The Flaming Lips, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Jungle, Herbie Hancock, Thundercat, Fatboy Slim, Leftover Salmon, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram and more. Additionally, the event will present “uniquely integrated performances, installations and art experiences” from the likes of Doug Aitken, Nick Cave, Jacolby Satterwhite, Pia Camil, Marinella Senatore, assume vivid astro focus, Maurizio Cattelan’s Toiletpaper Magazine, John Gerrard in collaboration with Richie Hawtin, Justin Lowe & Jonah Freeman, Sissel Tolaas, Charlap Hyman & Herrero and many others.

“FORMAT represents a new type of festival, placing visual and performing arts on the same plane as live music, creating a fluid and unified experience,” noted Triadic co-founders and FORMAT creators Elizabeth Edelman, Mafalda Millies and Roya Sachs. “Visitors will encounter large-scale installation art and unconventional venues created by a range of internationally recognized artists, alongside an eclectic roster of musical acts. We hope to foster curiosity and discovery, and produce a memorable event on this beautiful, hidden stretch of land in Bentonville.”

Held on a sprawling 250-acre site near downtown Bentonville, the new festival will present performances on traditional main and side stages as well as inventive settings described as “hidden forest enclaves, an open-air pavilion, a converted disco barn, and a multi-room speakeasy, all designed in collaboration with some of the most exciting artists and architects working today.” FORMAT organizers also curated the food vendors, dance processions, light shows and workshops.
