Foo Fighters headlined Welcome To Rockville 2024 on Saturday at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. The festival’s lineup also included Mammoth, whose guitarist Wolfgang Van Halen was recruited by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl for a fun collaboration on a classic Van Halen song.
Grohl finished introducing the current lineup of Foo Fighters and commented that he never gets to solo like they do during the intros. Grohl then appeared to start playing “Eruption” by Van Halen, which features late guitarist Eddie Van Halen’s standout tapping solo. Grohl triumphantly raised both his arms while the “Eruption” solo continued playing and the video screens revealed Wolfgang Van Halen performing his father’s signature guitar part out of the audience’s view.

Before the bit ended, Wolfgang Van Halen started to play Van Halen’s “Hot For Teacher,” which was briefly picked up by the Foo Fighters. The guitarist played that song with Foo Fighters at the tribute concert for their late drummer Taylor Hawkins held in Los Angeles in 2022.
“That part was not planned,” Grohl revealed, adding, “Don’t even get us started on that Van Halen shit, we’ll play that shit all fucking night long.”
Grohl followed the fun collab by dedicating the subsequent “My Hero” to Wolfgang and Eddie Van Halen. Watch how the “Eruption” went down at Welcome To Rockville below:
