Foo Fighters Debut Riff-Laced Rocker ‘Unconditional” At European Tour Kickoff In Manchester

Foo Fighters kicked off their European Tour in the UK on Thursday. The renowned rockers unveiled a new song, “Unconditional,” during night one of two at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester.

The premiere of “Unconditional” fell in the 20th slot of Foo Fighters’ 24-song concert. Frontman Dave Grohl led the band — bassist Nate Mendel, guitarist Chris Shiflett, keyboardist Rami Jaffee, guitarist Pat Smear, and drummer Josh Freese — through the driving rocker which featured a nifty lick from Shiflett. Pat Smear took over the riff while Shiflett reeled off a tasty solo.

Foo Fighters launched the concert with the classic “Monkey Wrench,” which included Chuck Berry’s iconic “Johnny B. Goode” lick and a Led Zeppelin “Rock & Roll” outro. Following favorite “Learn To Fly” and relatively new tune “No Son of Mine,” the band delivered “Rescued” off their latest album, But Here We Are.

FF offered two more tracks off their 2023 LP. Dave performed “Under You” solo acoustic and the band kicked off the encore with But Here We Are’s “The Teacher.” Additional Foo favorites included “The Pretender,” “Times Like These,” “Walk” and “All My Life.”

As has been tradition since the death of Taylor Hawkins in 2022, Foo Fighters dedicated “Aurora” to their late long-time drummer. FF capped the concert with the customary closer, “Everlong,” which saw Dave experiencing some techincal difficulties with his guitar. “My guitar just died,” he lamented. “That’s the saddest thing that’s ever happened in life. What are the fucking odds.” Grohl pivoted and said, “How bout this, Chris is gonna do it,” and then made good on his promise to do the song in the syle of Bono.
