“They sort of made hardcore what it is.” – Dave Grohl

Foo Fighters shared a cover of Minor Threat’s “I Don’t Wanna Hear It.” The punk rocker arrives as Foo Fighters mark their 30th anniversary.
“I Don’t Wanna Hear It” is a fitting release as the music was recorded in 1995, the same year frontman Dave Grohl released Foo Fighters self-titled debut album. The vocals were recorded in 2025.
Both Grohl and Minor Threat were fixtures of the 1980s Washington D.C. hardcore punk rock scene. Dave started his career playing drums with the D.C. band Scream. Although only active for a few years, Minor Threat were heavily influential on subsequent punk along with fellow D.C. band Bad Brains.
Minor Threat guitarist/vocalist Ian MacKaye would go on to form Fugazi. Grohl has cited both bands and MacKaye as major influences.
“They sort of made hardcore what it is, with Ian’s vocals and the whole straight-edge ‘no drink-no drugs’ thing,” Grohl said of Minor Threat in a 1997 Melody Maker article. “They started a new era. Although they were kind of minimalist about it, they were really talented musicians and they rocked.”
