Fleet Foxes Perform ‘Crack-Up’ Songs At First Concert Since 2012

Last night The Wilma Theatre in Missoula, Montana hosted the first full-band Fleet Foxes concert in nearly five years. Frontman Robin Pecknold led the band during their first performance since 2012 through a set heavily focused on material from their forthcoming LP Crack-Up.

Fleet Foxes started the show with the opening trio of songs that begins Crack-Up, offering takes on “I Am All That I Need / Arroyo Seco / Thumbprint Scar,” “Cassius, –” and “– Naiads, Cassadies” before launching into “Grown Ocean” from their 2011 sophomore album Helplessness Blues. Next came three songs from the 2008 Fleet Foxes debut LP, as Pecknold took the ensemble through “White Winter Hymnal,” “Ragged Wood” and ”Your Protector.” The latter half of the main set saw takes on Crack-Up tunes such as “Mearcstapa,” “On Another Ocean (January / June),” “He Doesn’t Know Why,” the title track and the singles “Third of May / Ōdaigahara” and “Fool’s Errand,” along with favorites such as “Mykonos” and “The Shrine / An Argument.”

Pecknold went solo to start the encore with a rendition of “If You Need To, Keep Time on Me” from the upcoming new record due out June 16 on Nonesuch. “Blue Ridge Mountains” and “Drops In The River” from the debut album and “Helplessness Blues” brought an end to the first Fleet Foxes show since 2012. Tonight the band will perform at Knitting Factory Concert House in Spokane.
