Flashback | Frank Zappa Visits Mike Douglas Show

The Mike Douglas Show was a talk show hosted by Chicago native Mike Douglas from 1961 to 1982. Douglas booked a wide range of guests on the show that included a string of shows co-hosted by John Lennon & Yoko Ono. For his November 9, 1976 show Douglas and co-host Jimmie “J.J.” Walker welcomed guests from totally different necks of the musical world –Frank Zappa and Kenny Rogers.

Our friends at Dangerous Minds posted about Zappa’s appearance, which included a performance of the instrumental “Black Napkins.” The video below not only contains Zappa and his band’s take on “Black Napkins,” but also features a pair of interesting interview segments in which Frank discusses his distaste for drugs and much more, as well as the premiere of a claymation animation from FZ’s A Token Of His Extreme special. We also get to hear Kenny Rogers’s take on Zappa’s music. Check it out:
