In the Spring of 1996, Ween opened a handful of shows for the new-at-the-time Foo Fighters. Back then, Dean and Gene Ween were performing accompanied by a tape recorder as they soon after enlisted the full band that would back them for the rest of their career.

On May 2, 1996 Dave Grohl and Co. welcomed Deaner and Gener up for a fun take on the Ween classic “Freedom Of ’76” at The Palladium in Hollywood, CA. Watch how it went down:

After the tune, Dave Grohl espouses his love of Ween and tells the crowd, “we don’t have any songs that are as good as that, so we had to ask them to help us out with our set.” He finishes by saying, “I’d give my left leg to write a song as pretty as Freedom of ’76.”
