By Scott Bernstein Jul 7, 2015 12:50 pm PDT

On this date in 1999 Phish brought their summer tour to the Blockbuster Pavilion in Charlotte, North Carolina for their first-ever performance at the outdoor shed. The show is most notable for its encore as guitarist Derek Trucks sat-in with Phish for the first and only time to date.

Trucks emerged for an encore of “Possum” and “Funky Bitch” with both blues-y tunes giving the former Allman Brothers Band and current Tedeschi Trucks Band guitarist plenty of room to show off his massive talents. Derek and Phish front man Trey Anastasio even engaged in a few duels. While Derek has never returned to a Phish stage, Anastasio has performed with Trucks a number of times over the years at Allman Brothers Band shows and at the 2002 Jammys in NYC. Derek also guested with the Trey Anastasio Band at the Mountain Aire Music Festival in 2002. Trey and Derek’s most recent collaboration took place during the Allmans’ Wanee 2014 set.

While video of Derek’s 1999 guest spot has yet to surface, take a listen to audio of the whole show shared by YouTube’s From The Aquarium. Trucks comes out around the 2:45:00 mark:
