Flaming Lips Walk ‘The Golden Path’ Again: Rare Chemical Brothers Collab Returns To Setlist

The Flaming Lips had a big surprise for fans when they kicked off the UK/Ireland leg of their 2025 Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots World Tour on Friday (April 25) in Birmingham, England. Wayne Coyne & Co. performed the Lips’ first “The Golden Path” in over a decade during their second set at Birmingham’s O2 Academy.

The Chemical Brothers originally released “The Golden Path” as a single in 2003. The British electronic music duo recruited Wayne Coyne to provide lead vocals, with bandmate Steven Drozd adding harmonies. Both members of The Flaming Lips were co-credited with songwriting contributions.

The Flaming Lips performed “The Golden Path” often between 2003 and 2004. The Oklahoma-based rockers brought the song back to their live rotation from July 2014 through January 2015 before the collaboration was shelved again.

After opening each show of the tour with a complete performance of their iconic 2002 album Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, The Flaming Lips are devoting second sets to a mix of “hits, fan favorites and deep cuts.” The quartet broke out “The Golden Path” towards the end of their closing stanza in Birmingham. The song hadn’t been played live since January 4, 2015 as per Setlist.FM statistics.

The Flaming Lips went on to perform “The Golden Path” on Saturday in London and last night in Dublin. Coyne sang the song in front of dancer in a blow up sun costume.
