According to an email sent by Frank’s family, Dance Me This “is the last title FZ finished in 1993 along with Trance-Fusion; the last chapter in his Master Work, Civilization, Phase III; and of course, The Rage & The Fury, The Music of Edgard Varèse.” Frank’s wife, Gail Zappa, and the Zappa Family Trust, have been promising Dance Me This would be released for over 10 years. Unless the ZFT pulled off a devious April Fools’ Day prank, the time has finally come as the LP was officially announced on Wednesday. Dance Me This is available for pre-order with the LP expected to ship on or around June 1.
According to fan site Information Is Not Knowledge, Frank Zappa first discussed Dance Me This during an interview with Guitarist Magazine that ran in June 1993 just months before his death. “And what I’m working on right at the moment is a Synclavier album called Dance Me This, which is designed to be used by modern dance groups. It’s probably not going to come out until next year,” FZ told Guitarist Magazine.
