Faye Webster recently took to NPR HQ with her band and a string quartet for a Tiny Desk Concert. The singer-songwriter performed songs from her latest studio album Underdressed at the Symphony and more.
Webster released Underdressed at the Symphony on March 1, 2024. Faye began her Tiny Desk, however, with a song, “In A Good Way,” from her 2021 album I Know I’m Funny haha.
The singer-songwriter’s accompaniment for the session included members of her touring band: Noor Khan (bass), Matthew Stoessel (guitar, pedal steel), Nick Rosen (piano) and Charles Garner (drums, percussion). Webster also enlisted a string quartet — reuniting with musicians who contributed to her 2020 orchestral EP Car Therapy Sessions — for the Tiny Desk consisting of Ellen Riccio (violin), Danielle Wiebe Burke (viola), Stephanie Barrett (cello) and Annie Leeth (violin).

Following “In A Good Way,” Webster turned to Underdressed at the Symphony with “But Not Kiss” and the title track. NPR’s Elle Mannion further described Faye Webster’s Tiny Desk Concert:
“Webster is a gentle but captivating performer in this space, at times grooving with her locked-in band. But she also appears to be in a trance of her own, like on the Atlanta Millionaires Club cuts ‘Jonny’ and its spoken-word reprise. The horns heard on those original recordings gave everything a brassy warmth, but here Trey Pollard’s string arrangements enhance this Tiny Desk’s dream-like quality.”
