Father John Misty Gives Live Staple ‘The Old Law’ Studio Treatment
The track, previously known as “God’s Trash,” is the first release from Josh Tillman since his 2024 album, ‘Mahashmashana.’

Today, Father John Misty released a new studio single entitled “The Old Law” via Sub Pop Records. Previously known as “God’s Trash,” FJM — singer/songwriter Josh Tillman — has performed the song live regularly since September 2024.
The track marks Father John Misty’s first new studio release since his sixth album, Mahashmashana, arrived on November 22, 2024. Tillman produced “The Old Law” with frequent collaborator Drew Erickson. Michael Harris and Jonathan Wilson mixed the single at Los Angeles’ Fivestar Studios, with Adam Amyan handling mastering duties.
