Boston-birthed jam quartet The Jauntee are gearing up to release a new studio album entitled Always Never Knowing on September 14. JamBase is pleased to premiere video for the record’s second single, “Renaissance Man.”
Guitarist Caton Sollenberger, keyboardist Tyler Adams, bassist John Loland and drummer Scott Ferber recorded Always Never Knowing on July 12 and 13, 2017 at The Bridge Sound & Stage in Cambridge. The Jauntee aimed to recreate the live experience by performing in front of a small audience at the studio. Sollenberger, Adams, Loland and Ferber recruited Alex Allinson to record and mix and Tom Waltz to master the 16 tracks found on Always Never Knowing. While most of the songs on the album are previously unreleased, many – including “Renaissance Man” – are staples of their live shows.
“I wrote ‘Renaissance Man’ for my other band The Soul Panacea back in 2012 or ‘13 sometime. We learned it and played it once but it didn’t really suit that band, so I put it on the shelf,” keyboardist Tyler Adams tells JamBase. “Almost immediately after joining the Jauntee in 2015, I remembered that song and realized it’d be a good fit. It was either the first or second original I brought to the Jauntee, and has since become a regular in our live rotation that always seems to be a crowd favorite.

“The song is written from the point of view of someone who strives to do it all, and be a jack of all trades. But in the last chorus, basically realizes that you don’t have to do everything to lead a fulfilling life,” Adams adds. Watch the video for “Renaissance Man” filmed and edited by MKDevo:
