Exclusive Premiere: Zach Gill Shares Single From First New Album Since 2013

Famed singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Zach Gill of ALO and Jack Johnson’s band will release his long-awaited sophomore full-length studio album, Life In The Multiverse, on June 2. JamBase is pleased to premiere “Joy (Abbreviated),” the LP’s first single.

Zach issued his solo debut, Stuff, in 2008. His last solo release came in the form of a holiday EP, 2013’s Roastin’ Chestnuts With Zach Gill. Those who pre-order Life In The Multiverse starting this Friday will receive an instant download of the new single “Joy (Abbreviated).” Gill will keep busy this summer as a member of Jack Johnson’s band. Here’s what Zach had to tell JamBase about “Joy (Abbreviated)”:

The idea of feeling guilty or embarrassed about liking certain songs or styles of music seems to have been with us for a while. When I was in junior high, I was embarrassed of the music I liked in elementary school, when I was in high school I was embarrassed by what I was into in junior high, and so on. I guess it has something to do with growing up in general and with our cultures ever changing notions of what’s “cool” and “what’s not cool.”

A year or so ago, I brought my teenage daughter and her friend to the outside lands music festival in golden gate park. For three days we saw a lot of music, everything from Billy Idol to Tame Impala, Kendrick Lamar to Elton John and it was all great. Later that week, with my head still full of music, I wrote down the lyrics to “Joy.”
