Chicago-based quartet Mungion recently completed a lengthy tour that was the band’s first extensive run as a headliner. JamBase is pleased to premiere professionally-shot video from their tour closer at Durty Nellies in Palatine, Illinois on March 16.

Mungion was formed in 2015 and has already built up a impressive fanbase called the “Mung Force.” The band features guitarist Justin Reckamp, keyboardist Joe Re, bassist Sean Carolan and drummer Matt Kellen. All four members of Mungion are capable vocalists which leads to powerful harmonies. In 2016, the quartet issued their debut album Scary Blankets. “Beneath The Shallows” opens the LP and shows off the band’s progressive influences. Mungion expands the composition on the live stage and the version played last month at Durty Nellies is a fine example of the foursome’s improvisational chops.

“‘Beneath the Shallows’ was the first tune that the band ever wrote/played. It’s kind of this through-composed musical journey that hopefully takes the listener to some different places as they listen to the piece. There are also some nice sections that let us stretch out and take some chances which is always the real goal, Recamp tells JamBase. “The energy of that tour closer was insane and we can’t thank everyone enough for coming out and supporting what we do. We love you Mung Force and hope you enjoy! Stay tuned for more.”

Durty Nellies is Mungion’s favorite hometown venue as its located in the north suburbs of Chicago. “Our hometown fans are family at this point. The energy at that show was incredible. We could really feel them being step for step with us during our jams. The energy back and forth between the audience and us was relentless,” Carolan adds.
