Exclusive Premiere: Love Canon Shares ‘Tempted’ Featuring Eric Krasno

Acoustic-roots act Love Canon will issue their fourth album Cover Story on July 13 via Organic Records. The band recruited a number of guests to help them interpret nine pop and rock classics from the ’80s and ’90s on the record including guitarist Eric Krasno. JamBase is pleased to premiere Love Canon and Kraz’s version of “Tempted” by Squeeze from Cover Story.

Guitarist/vocalist Jesse Harper, banjoist/vocalist Adam Larrabee, mandolinist/vocalist Andy Thacker, bassist/vocalist Darrell Muller and resonator guitarist/vocalist Jay Starling have won over many a crowd and built a rising following thanks to their inventive interpretations of hit songs. The quintet picked a fresh batch for Cover Story that they laid down at Dave Matthews Band’s Haunted House Studio in Love Canon’s hometown of Charlottesville, Virginia. Included within are takes on such beloved favorites as Billy Joel’s “Prelude (Angry Young Man),” Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy The Silence,” R.E.M.’s “Driver 8,” Paul Simon’s “Graceland,” Howard Jones’ “Things Can Only Get Better” and more.

The group collaborated with a number of guests on Cover Story including legendary dobroist Jerry Douglas, longtime friend Alex Hargreaves on fiddle, acclaimed vocalist Aoife O’Donovan, tenor saxophonist Bobby Read, trumpeter John D’Earth and the multi-talented Keller Williams. As noted above, Eric Krasno adds to a gorgeous rendition of Squeeze’s East Side Story gem “Tempted.” Kraz not only plays guitar but sings on the track.

Eric Krasno suggested this tune. We have been such fans of his guitar playing since his work with Soulive and when he offered to sing as well as play we were totally blown away. Kraz and Jesse trade verses, but the highlight of the track has got to be Kraz’s majestic guitar solo. An instant classic. Those chord change are not easy and he just plays the most melodic stuff through some pretty hairy harmony. The Wurlitzer here is played by our good friend Daniel Clarke (K.D. Lang, Ryan Adams, War on Drugs). Daniel and Jesse actually when to elementary school together and Adam and Daniel were at Virginia Commonwealth University together and used to play jazz together in Richmond a while back.
