Exclusive Premiere | Fox Street – Justified

“On both of our previous records, Fox Street featured cover songs written by some of our favorite artists such as Stevie Wonder, The Band and Chuck Berry. When we were planning recording sessions for what would become the Authentic Western Style album, we were intent on continuing that tradition -but this time we were going to feature a song that was co-written by one of our good friends, Blake Mobley. The song ‘Justified’ was written by Blake along with Baltimore singer/songwriter Cris Jacobs (formerly of The Bridge).” Fox Street’s James Dumm tells JamBase. “When Blake relocated from Maryland to Colorado, he made quite the splash among our musician friends and the Colorado jam scene with his fresh, melodic keyboard playing and his newly formed group, Tiger Party. ‘Justified’ was a song that a few of us had played live in various groups with Blake, and once we heard Skippy sing it, we knew it was a natural fit for Fox Street, and it quickly became a highlight of our live show.”
“For the Fox Street version of ‘Justified,’ we were lucky to have Todd Smallie of JJ Grey and Mofro on bass, along with Bill McKay on keys (longtime Fox Street collaborator formerly of Leftover Salmon) -both of whom were in the original lineup of the Derek Trucks band together for many years! We have been incredibly fortunate to have Bill McKay in our corner for so long, and to have him and Todd back together, ripping it up after all those years, really makes the connection that much more special. Those guys have both gone toe to toe with legends and to have them playing Fox Street shows and recording sessions is amazing -certainly something we never dreamed would happen when we formed the band! Top all of that off with a super laid-back and funky trumpet solo by our friend and special guest Gabe Mervine of The Motet, and you’ve got ‘Justified.'”
