Upstate New York jam act Formula 5 will issue their third studio album, All Points North, on April 14. Today, JamBase is pleased to premiere “It Goes…” off All Points North ahead of the album’s release.
Formula 5 recorded All Points North at Overit Studios in Albany and tapped Bryan Brundige to produce and mix the nine-track effort. Fans helped the band create the LP via a successful Kickstarter campaign in Fall 2016. The four-piece of Joe Davis (guitar/vocals), Greg Marek (drums), James Woods (bass) and Matt Richards (keys/vocals) touch upon themes of death, rebirth and moving on over the course of the album.
One song that deals the with the heavy topic of death is “It Goes…” Joe Davis explained the genesis of the tune, “The idea for the song originally came from a thought I had after my Dad passed away. The thought was if there was anything I hadn’t told him or said to him, then he would never know. That’s the way ‘it goes…’ if you will. The song can relate to anything in life though it’s like when you say ‘you too’ to a waiter when they tell you to enjoy your meal. You wish you could’ve said thank you or whatever instead but they walked away.
“Life happens in the moment and what transpires, or is said is said and that’s the way ‘It Goes…’ The music was inspired by a mixture of John Scofield and Anderson Paak. Keyboardist Matt Richards and I have been trying to push the band into a neo-soul/R&B direction lately and that can be heard on “It Goes…” Listen to the premiere of “It Goes…”:
Formula 5 recently began an extensive Spring Tour. The band plays Plattsburgh’s Monopole on Friday and The Waterhole in Saranac Lake on Saturday.
