Asheville’s The Broadcast are gearing up to release their sophomore studio full-length From The Horizon on June 17. The Americana/soul outfit recorded the 11-track album in the desert of California with seven-time Grammy-winning producer Jim Scott (Tedeschi Trucks Band, Wilco, Grace Potter, Tom Petty, Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chili Peppers). One of the many songs off the LP that caught our ear is the stirring “On The Edge” and today we are pleased to premiere a video featuring a live performance of the tune.

The Broadcast are led by frontwoman Caitlin Krisko whose voice reminds us a bit of Nicki Bluhm, Susan Tedeschi and Brandi Carlile. It’s Krisko’s urgent vocal delivery that’s at the heart of “On The Edge.” The band recently teamed with production company IAMAVL to record a session at Echo Mountain Recording Studios.

“We wanted to give our listeners a window into what it was like recording in the studio with The Broadcast,” Krisko told JamBase about the session. “There’s something really special about the dynamic that’s captured in a live music setting, especially in a space as incredible as Echo Mountain Recording Studios in Asheville. We feel like we’ve found our sound and voice on From The Horizon, and a large part of that sound is the live energy we create performing our songs together in one room.”

NPR Music recently premiered the studio version of “On The Edge”:

While The Broadcast formed in New York City, the band moved to Asheville in 2010. The group is so beloved in its adopted hometown, they have been named Official Band Ambassadors of Asheville for 2016. The Broadcast will celebrate the upcoming release of From The Horizon with a show at Asheville’s Grey Eagle on June 11.
